Terms of use

The short version: share only what you made, and be clear about whether others may use it. The rest of this page says what that means if something goes wrong.

1. What this is

A place to share animation clips made with the Animation Workbench, run by the operator named in the Impressum. It is free. It is not a marketplace: nothing is sold here, and no money changes hands.

Reading and downloading need no account. Uploading, hearting and reporting need one, and an account is created by signing in with Discord. One person, one account. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian has to agree to these terms.

2. What you may upload

Only animation you made yourself. Not clips from asset packs, motion libraries, Mixamo, other games, or other people – and editing someone else’s clip does not make it yours.

Before each upload you confirm a declaration that says exactly this. The Workbench checks what it can recognise and blocks an upload when it finds a foreign origin, but the check is a help, not a permission: a clip that passes it is not thereby yours.

Also not allowed: motion built to harass or demean a real person, and anything unlawful.

3. Public or private – what you are choosing

Public puts the clip under CC BY 4.0. Anyone may use, change and pass it on, including commercially, as long as they credit you. That licence cannot be withdrawn. Deleting the clip here takes it off the portal; it does not undo the licence for copies people already have.

Private keeps the clip off the catalogue. It can only be reached by its link, and the link is eight characters from an alphabet of 31 – hard to guess, not secret. A private clip grants no rights: holding the link is not permission to use it.

4. What you allow the operator to do

To show and deliver your clip at all, the operator needs a few rights from you: to store it, to display it, to hand it to people who download it, and to generate previews from it. That permission is non-exclusive, worldwide, free of charge, and limited to running this portal. It exists for as long as the clip is here.

Nothing beyond that. Your clip will not be used to advertise the Animation Workbench, sold on, or licensed to anyone else.

5. What you are promising

That you hold the rights to what you upload, and that sharing it here breaks no one else’s rights. If someone makes a claim against the operator because of a clip you uploaded, you cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it – unless you were not at fault.

6. Reports, removal, and what follows

Anyone can report a clip, and a rights holder can use the takedown form without an account. A reported clip is hidden immediately, before anyone has looked at it. That is deliberate: it is better for a clip to be briefly invisible than for an infringing one to stay up over a weekend.

The operator then looks at it and either restores it or removes it. You are told which, and why. If you think the decision is wrong, write to the address in the Impressum; it will be looked at again by a person.

A removed clip counts as a strike against the account. Three strikes suspend it. Uploading the same clip again after removal is blocked. Reports that turn out to be knowingly false are noted against the reporting account.

7. Availability

This is a free service run by one person. It can be down, and it can stop. There is no guaranteed uptime. If the portal is ever shut down for good, that will be announced with enough notice to fetch your clips – and your clips are in your Unity project anyway, which is where they came from.

There is a kill switch: uploads and downloads can be switched off at short notice, for instance during an attack or a legal dispute. The portal then says so instead of failing silently.

8. Liability

The operator is liable without limit for injury to life, body or health, and for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence. For slight negligence, liability exists only where an obligation is breached that is essential to this agreement, and then only up to the damage typically foreseeable for a free service of this kind. Liability under the Produkthaftungsgesetz is unaffected.

Clips here come from other users. The operator does not check them in advance and does not warrant that a clip is free of third-party rights.

9. Ending it

You can delete your clips and your account at any time. The operator may suspend an account that repeatedly breaks these terms, and may remove clips that break them. Records of removals and moderation decisions stay – see Privacy.

10. Changes

These terms can change. Changes that affect you are announced on the portal before they take effect, and the wording of the upload declaration carries a version number that the Workbench checks: if it has moved, the Workbench asks you to read the new text before it uploads anything.

11. Applicable law

German law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
